Starting Your First Blog

So we want to start blogging. Where do we start? First of all, what is a blog? It seems to me that a blog can be anything you want it to be. From a news magazine,to a political discussion, or gossip and ranting. But, before you can release your creative juices, you have to have a place to do it. After days and days of exhaustive research, I've decided that Blogger is the best place to start. As the journey continues I will explore some different options, but for now let's keep it simple.

The first thing you need is an e-mail address. You can use your current e-mail, but I chose to set up a new account just for this blog. You can usually set up a new e-mail account with your ISP or you can set up an account with one of the free e-mail providers. Since Google offers free Gmail accounts, that's an easy place to start. Just go to Google's homepage and click on the "Mail" button on the top menu. Click on "Create an Account ", enter your name, pick a user name (good luck), make up a password and you're on your way. Now, head on over to the Blogger site and use your email to log in and create a new blog. You have to give it a name (this is what goes at the top of your page) and then you need to pick a URL. This will be part of the web address so people can find your blog. This part could take awhile because most of the easy names have already been used. When you come up with a name you can live with, click continue and go to the template page. You can choose from any of the templates offered. There are others available and you can make changes to these, so Just pick one to start with. You can always change later. Click the button and your blog is done! The first page you see is the box to type your post in. Put in a title, type some deep thoughts, hit "Publish Post" and you are a blogger.

Stay tuned for more.
